We’d love to share with you some of our favourite things to do locally, in the village and beyond… Some things that you won’t find in any tourist brochures!!
Nestled on Cornwall’s south coast, Mevagissey is a quintessential Cornish fishing village full of character, charm and colour. With its narrow cobbled streets, working harbour and traditional cottages tumbling down to the water’s edge, Mevagissey perfectly captures the spirit of old Cornwall — yet still offers all the comforts and attractions modern visitors love.
At the heart of the village lies its historic twin-harbour, where brightly painted fishing boats still land their daily catch. Around the quayside you’ll find a lively mix of independent shops, cafés, art galleries, and some of the best fish and chips you’ll ever taste. Mevagissey’s maze of lanes hides welcoming pubs, local craft stores and friendly tearooms, creating a wonderfully relaxed and authentic atmosphere.
The surrounding coastline is breathtaking, with dramatic cliffs, secluded coves and scenic walks along the South West Coast Path. The walk from Mevagissey to Pentewan or onward to Charlestown offers spectacular sea views and hidden beaches along the way. For a day trip, the world-famous Lost Gardens of Heligan are just minutes away — a magical landscape of restored Victorian gardens and woodland trails. A little further afield, the Eden Project showcases one of the UK’s most remarkable ecological attractions, with its iconic biomes and year-round events.
Mevagissey also makes a great base for exploring other parts of Cornwall’s south coast. Nearby villages such as Gorran Haven and Portmellon offer safe sandy beaches and peaceful swimming spots, while the market town of St Austell provides larger shops and facilities. From the harbour, visitors can even take seasonal ferry trips across St Austell Bay to Fowey — a beautiful way to see the coastline from the water.
Whether you spend your days exploring clifftop paths, visiting local gardens, or simply sitting by the harbour watching the fishing boats glide in, Mevagissey offers the perfect mix of coastal beauty, heritage, and Cornish charm.
